Policy Brief 1 - Green transition and housing inequalities

Deliverable 7.4

The EU has considerable impact on urban areas through key action areas of the Green Deal which drive essential progress, yet there is a "Green Paradox": well-intentioned policies designed to mitigate climate change often accelerate displacement, green gentrification, housing unaffordability, and socio-spatial polarisation, paradoxically leading to the loss of green benefits for lower-income residents. This brief explains how environmental policy can sometimes unintentionally drive displacement, green gentrification and increased housing inequalities while providing policy recommendations to counteract these negative outcomes.
